I had the joy of blending old and new in this master bedroom design for a Willowsford home in Aldie, Virginia. My clients loved their current bed and nightstands, but needed help wrapping up the finishing pieces to complete the space.
A Sanctuary of Luxury
Every element in this bedroom has been meticulously chosen to evoke a sense of luxury and personality. The color palette we worked off were the two square throw pillows that the client already owned and loved. By combining harmonious blues and grays, we created an ambiance that is both inviting and sophisticated.
Pewter toned organic cotton sheets updated the bedding and a white cotton sateen duvet cover with a touch of gray embroidery surrounded a lush duvet insert. A large navy linen bolster pillow finished off the bed with a pop of color to tie into the throw pillows.
Meshing Dreams with Practicality
When I first walked through the bedroom at our Initial Meeting, I immediately noticed that the family used the area in their room across the bed for placing laundry, a "drop zone" during a busy week (we all have them!). Speaking to the client, however, they verbalized that they would love that area to feel cozy and warm.
I chose a large electric fireplace that has both the option to heat the space as well as display flames with no heat. It was able to be installed seamlessly so that it looks like it has been there all along!
When we started the design process, the clients provided me with a sheet of furniture & art pieces in their home that they were open to seeing repurposed in a different room. I loved the backs of these chairs, and knew they'd be perfect for their bedroom space. This art was also in the document, and was previously in a hallway. We loved the idea of incorporating the calming elements of having the ocean into the bedroom. The coffee table and mirror stayed, so once we added the chairs and art, the sitting area was complete.
Aside from this area reflecting the clients' interests, the mantle provides another zone to place items during busy seasons, clearing up the chairs to enjoy their bedroom as a relaxing sanctuary.
Finishing Touches
A fresh coat of paint tied in the walls with the bed upholstery perfectly. Gray roman plaster was applied to the tray ceiling to accentuate its height. Navy curtains hung high to frame the windows, and two stunning textured blue table lamps balance out the blues on each side of the bed.
When we design for our clients, is not merely about aesthetics; it is about creating environments that resonate with their hearts and minds, that tell their stories, and that ultimately make them feel truly at home.
